Facilities include warehouses for frozen foods and ice cream, grocery, perishable and health and beauty care products, along with a truck shop, an ice-making facility, a printing department, and more.

A family-owned company that has been in business more than 100 years, Johnson Machine Works designs, details and fabricates structural steel products used in construction projects worldwide.

Chariton's schools lead the area in quality education. The district serves students at Chariton High School (grades 9-12), Chariton Middle School (grades 6-8), Van Allen Elementary (grades 3-5), and Columbus Elementary (grades K-2).

The Lucas County Health Center (LCHC) is a non-profit county hospital and clinic located in the city of Chariton and is one of the community's largest employers. LCHC provides a full range of health care services including radiology, chemotherapy, obstetrics and much more.

Gary Chipp, founder of FBI, and his family have been in the motorcycle industry since 1983 and and franchise Harley Davidson dealer since 1984. FBI evolved due to customers requests as they were looking for a new way to get more rubber under their baggers. Gary fabricated the parts needed to install a wide tire on a friend's bagger. As soon as the bike hit the road, the requests started pouring in. It soon became evident that there was a market for a new business and FBI was born
